Weddings, I can’t think of any event short of the birth of a child as special as a wedding. In today’s mail, I just happened to be blessed with an invite to such an occasion, it doesn’t matter that this is both the bride and groom’s second marriage. Oh boy, a thought suddenly popped into The Scent Bro’s brain. I’m getting up there in years. The wedding invites I receive now are for second weddings. At this pace, wedding invites for my friend’s kids can only be a few years off.
With an invite in hand, I check my wardrobe, my scent wardrobe for an awesome special occasion cologne. Looking through my inventory, I settle on Grey Vetiver by Tom Ford.
History
Tom Ford, a fortunate SOB, fortunate in that he was trained as an architect, went on to do his own thing as a fashion designer, who went on to create his brand in 2005. In 2009, the house created by Mr. Ford released Tom Ford Grey Vetiver. You know the old saying, “it’s not work if you love it.”
I was introduced to this cologne while visiting Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. A suspected thief selling colognes from a plastic grocery bag offered to spray a little on my wrist before moving on. Shortly afterward, I was approached by a couple of buzzed-up women who just loved the scent. I had to have it!
What’s In It?

Tom Ford Grey Vetiver Is For
Guys who love Vetiver based fragrances that women love. Not in a lusty way which is cool, real love, or thinks they love type way. The notes in this fragrance bring for the thought of romance and love making it one of my best special occasion cologne choices. By special occasion, I’m referring to occasions such as weddings, formal parties that could include the office Christmas party, something to pull off the shelf that’s a cut above.
The person who wears this fragrance is one who loves a spicy scent wrapper. This special occasion cologne lasts about eight hours per application. While Grey scores high in the longevity column, it scores fairly low in the sillage(think of sillage as you would a jet trail in the sky that leads to the plane) department.
The other catch is price. A fairly pricey scent(as of this writing Amazon has a 1.7-ounce bottle for $77.99), you can be sure every dude in the room won’t be wearing it.
My Tom Ford Grey Vetiver Experience
My experience with this cologne is it seems to act as an ice breaker. Guy, as well as gals, want to know what it is. Any help you can get in starting a conversation is welcome to help A shame this scent is relegated to the formal category. On the other hand, this cologne has great signature scent potential. Compliments received while wearing this cologne include sexy, heady and something to the effect my cologne is making her “high for me.”
Don’t let cost put you off on trying this cologne, samples are available from just about anywhere online.
