Dolce Gabbana King-A New Old Love

Dolce & Gabanna K

In October of 2019,  I decided to blind buy Dolce Gabbana’s King or K. Released in 2019, I grabbed it based on nothing more than the citrus top notes and the cool crown bottle cap. I gave this cologne a spin and just didn’t like it. I put it in the back of my collection (a small cool, dry and dark cubby) and forgot about it.

Flash forward two years. After having a fragrance conversation with my youngest nephew, I decided to decant a few bottles of cologne for him to sample. It was then when I noticed the crown. I decided to test the cologne again and guess what, I loved how it smelled on me

Body Changes

I couldn’t figure out why I suddenly like how this stuff smells. I mentioned it to a friend who said “you’ve lost weight since then and are eating better than you used to.” Lightbulb moment. She’s right, I’ve changed the way I eat and as she said, I’ve dropped a decent amount of weight.

Could these body changes be responsible for the newfound love for this cologne? I believe the answer is yes. Since I’ve lost weight and got into better shape, I was able to ditch a couple of prescription medications. According to an article, “taking medication for prolonged periods can also alter the chemical makeup of the body, significantly affecting bodily scent.”(mocemsa.com). The article went on to say that a well-balanced diet may cause a scent to smell different on one person as opposed to another

Regardless of the reason, this cologne immediately comes to life with a citrusy burst of fragrance. As I’m a citrus freak, this blast was very pleasing and long-lived but the star of the show was the middle notes.

Top Notes-Blood Orange, Citrus, Juniper Berry, Sicilian Lemon

Middle Notes-Clary Sage, Geranium, Lavender, Pimento

Base Notes-Cedar, Patchouli, Vetiver

The EDT version of this cologne didn’t rush through the notes. It took a while for me to start picking up on the Clary Sage for example. The dry-down transforms this scent into a woody masculine thing.

Now that I’ve moved Dolce & Gabbana K from the back loser row, I believe I will use this cologne as a date scent as well as an everyday cologne that could morph into a signature scent. D&G K would work well in both warm and cooler parts of the year.

This cologne has a mature vibe to it which would make it a great scent for younger guys who want to stand out from the Axe crowd and will wear well in a school setting.
