History
The original version of Cool Water, released in 1988 was at one point thought to be a Davidoff (a house who started off in the fine cigar business) effort to create a generic version of Green Irish Tweed released a few years earlier in 1985.
Since its original release, CW has been reformulated at least two times to become one of the most popular colognes for men on the market today. The popularity of this cologne rivals that of Acqua Di Gio making it an excellent casual(work/school) or first date frag.
What’s In It?

Who Should Wear This Cologne
The guy who would consider wearing Cool Water is a dude who wants to play it safe and bases cologne purchases on what’s popular. To be honest, depending on the reason you buy a fragrance, buying based on what other folks think is popular isn’t a bad idea.
Chances are you surfed into this review based on a search for the most popular colognes for men. Another man who would consider adding this concoction to their collection is one who has the ability to balls up and says “I don’t care if it’s popular or not, I going to wear it because I like it!”
I fall into this category. I buy it because I like it devil be damned. The man makes the cologne, not the other way around.
The downside to this frag is depending on your playgroup, you may smell this everywhere. Guys were slathering this stuff on and smelling up the dorms in the late ’80s through mid-’90s. The same guys have now rediscovered this fragrance and began to wear it again.
The upside to this is when you wear it, you may spark a memory or two in a woman around. A good memory from the day when all she had to worry about was grades and an unexpected pregnancy.
My experience with this cologne is people seem to like it on me despite having smelled it somewhere on someone else. While wearing this cologne, I actually sparked up memory in a woman.
She did a flashback to the old dorm days and let down her hair for a while. She didn’t jump my bones or anything like that but she did let me in far enough to see what was actually going on in there. None of that dating scene nonsense.
Nice Cologne Nice Price
Cool Water is dirt cheap. A bottle can be had for less than $30.00(as of this writing) which no doubt adds to its popularity. You can’t go wrong with a cheap popular fragrance.
