Ed Hardy by Christian Audiger

Ed Hardy for men, created by another clothes hawker (as if they most of colognes didn’t come folks who sell some type of cloth sewn together). Ed Hardy by Christian Audiger is the cologne I’m speaking of. I personally don’t have anything against the Ed Hardy line but I will say I can’t see myself wearing any of their cloths. Not big loss to them I’m sure.

I picked this scent in hopes of finding a nice spring scent candidate that’s not too light but not so heavy that it will blow out the office on a nice warm spring day when the thermostat is still set for a 50 below wind chill factor.

Ed Hardy released in 2008 in the EDT concentration features :

• Top Notes- Bergamot, Mandarin Orange, Clary Sage
• Middle Note- Mint
• Base Notes-Amber, Vanilla, Musk

I decided to try this cologne mostly based on what’s in it. I have a thing for colognes that features multiple citrus oils such as bergamot and mandarin orange. My test platform for this scent was of all things, a quilting class.

Don’t laugh or think something is wrong with the Scentimental Brotha. Think on it, who goes to classes like this? Women, but not just women, traditional women and better yet, the mothers of women like this. Getting in good with a father is good but getting the nod from a mother is gold. She will in a lot of cases diffuse the dad who may see through your act.

Where I Tested Ed Hardy For Men

I found this class offered by a local high school continuing education program. It was a bargain. I figured the demographic would be older women and wasn’t disappointed when I arrived to find mid 30 something’s and up. About 10 minutes out, I sprayed on a couple of bursts so the tops notes would be in full bloom by the time I walked through the door.

The looks I was thrown when I came in the room was priceless. I’m sure they thought I had the wrong room at best. I don’t want to think what the worse thing they were thinking could have been.

After a brief Q&A and introduction period, we were bunched into groups of 5 each learning the art of quilt making. One of these days, I’ll post the picture of me making a quilt. I signed a release and wouldn’t be surprised if it shows up in the next brochure.One of the biggest parts of quilting is the conversation. Being around a lot of women, I picked up on some valuable intel regarding the way women think about us men. I’ll share this at a later date.

I decided to turn the conversation to the power of scent and what place does it hold in a woman’s list of attractors. I learned from these women that a good smelling man is hard to resist. Smelling good makes for a good opener when “cold approaching” a woman. I asked about the Ed Hardy I was wearing to find it was well received but not as well received as an older more “traditional” fragrance. Digging deeper into this, I learned this could be the result of these ladies going with what they knew.

Keeping this in mind, I’ll have to beef up my traditional scents. At any rate, the citrus notes were picked up by a couple of the ladies. The basenotes must have rushed in as someone mentioned smelling vanilla about an hour and a half after we got started on our work. The class lasted three hours after which I asked one of the ladies out for a drink. Deciding I was harmless (or maybe hoping I wasn’t) she accepted. After a drink or two, she asked to smell my wrist again, she mentioned the cologne was still in her mind (whatever that means) but she can’t smell it now.

I checked my wrist to find the scent had faded in about 4 or so hours. That’s not long by cologne standards. My biggest problem with this cologne based on this test was the longevity. The next go around, I’ll shoot on a few more burst to see how long it lasts. It’s possible I got a bottle that really wasn’t in the EDT concentration.

This cologne despite it’s not lasting very long is still a good one to me. It didn’t score high on the ooh aah scale with the group I initially tested it on. We’ll see what happens when I roll it out at work.
