Gucci Sport Pour Homme-I Never Met A Flanker I Hated

April 2, 2013 by scentbro Leave a Comment

Gucci Sport Pour Homme

I’ve never met a Flanker Cologne for Men that I’ve hated. As a child, my dear mother told me that hate is a waste of energy, a wasted emotion so we’ll just say, I can’t stand Gucci Homme Sport.  Sport Released in 2010 is a follow up or “Flanker Scent” to Gucci by Gucci released a couple years earlier in 2008.

What’s a Flanker Cologne?

“A flanker perfume or cologne is a sequel or follow up fragrance that was wildly popular. By that I mean rather than take the time and money to come up with a new a new set of great colognes based on an original concept, many fragrance houses choose to take the cheap and easy route and put out a flanker scent.”

To say this cologne is a disappointment is an understatement. To be fair, I’m thinking I’m more disappointed in myself more than I am in this fragrance. I would be lying if I said the fragrance notes were the primary reason I purchased this stuff.

  • Top Notes:Cypress, Grapefruit, Mandarin Orange
  • Middle Notes: Cardamom, Figs, JuniperBerry
  • Base Notes: Ambrette, Patchouli, Vetiver

What I didn’t like about Gucci Sport Pour Homme

On paper these notes are awesome, reality paints a different picture. This cologne is one of the most synthetic smelling

concoctions I’ve ever sprayed on myself. The top notes were practically non-existent.  I was barely able to pick up the citrus that you would think Grapefruit and Mandarin orange would bring to the table. The middle notes left me hanging. I had hoped for a nice spicy heart to this thing compliment of the Cardamom, no such luck.

With regards to the base notes, I did pick up on the Patchouli and Vetiver, however they smelled more lab created than natural as did the rest of this cologne. Fake smelling aside, I was less than impressed with the staying power this scent offers. I reckon I should be happy the stuff doesn’t last long. At best I can count on maybe two hours of scent before it vanishes completely

What Did I Like About Gucci Sport?

To be honest, there wasn’t much to like about this cologne. This is money that I could have spent on another scent.

Why Did I Buy Gucci Sport?

 Lie

Gucci Sport Pour Homme was a blind buy for me. I bought it based on the advertised notes. I bought it based on Gucci’s reputation for putting together great colognes for men.

 Truth

1-I bought “sport” because I’m somewhat OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) when it comes to my fragrance collection. Flanker colognes are made for guys like me. They know I’ll buy something just for the bottle.

2-I bought sport because, wait for it, a woman told me she loved the scent. There, I said it. I bought a cologne because I thought it would get me brownie points with a female.

As much as I don’t like this cologne, I sadly will continue to spray it on from time to time when I’m around this woman.

“Never underestimate the power of the p@#$@ boys. One hair off that thing can drag a freight train a mile uphill.”
