My Best Monday Morning Colognes

December 21, 2010 by scentbro Leave a Comment

“Let me ask you something. When you come in on Monday and you’re not feeling real well, does anyone ever say to you, “Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays?”

Peter Gibbons-Office Space

For as long as I can remember I couldn’t stand the thought of another Monday. There have been times on Sunday, around 8:00 when the pre-Monday dread began to kick in. I don’t know why Monday should be any different from the rest of the days with the exception of Friday.

I get up the same time on Monday as I do Tuesday through Friday. For that matter, I find it hard to sleep in on the weekends and find myself waking up the same time on Saturday morning as I do on Monday. Whatever the reason, I find I take a little extra time to get into the rhythm of my day on Mondays. I need a little help, an edge or advantage.

My personal advantage over the dreaded Monday morning blues comes down to the cologne I choose to wear. I choose a cologne I feel has a little something in it to give me a mood and energy boost. The little something comes in the form of citrus essential oils.

If you’ve read any of my other rants, you will see I’m a big fan colognes and perfumes that feature citrus oils. Citrus oils have the ability to relieve fatigue, provide a lift to your mood by allowing your body to relax. Citrus essential oils also have properties that relieve the busy mind. I thought I would share a few of my favorite pick me up colognes featuring citrus oils primarily in the top notes.

The top notes of a fragrance are the first notes you will detect as you apply a fragrance. They are usually the stronger of the notes. They aren’t the longest lasting notes in a fragrance but they give me the early morning boost I’m looking for.

One of my favorite pick me up colognes is Bulgari Pour Homme, Bulgari Pour Homme was released in 1995 and features:

· Top Notes-Bergamot, Orange Blossom, Black Currant, Darjeeling Tea ,Water Lilly,Muguet

· Middle Notes-Cardamom, Rose Wood, Pepper, Red Iris, Guaic Wood

· Base Notes- Musk, Transparent Amber

Among the top notes, Bulgari Pour Homme features two citrus notes in the form of Bergamot and Orange Blossom. This isn’t a scent I smell on a lot of guys which is fine by me. I don’t want to walk around smelling like a lot of other men.

I wear what I wear for myself but I also keep in mind my intended audience. You guessed it, women. Bulgari Pour Homme is classified as a mature scent which I find lasts the better part of the work day. Looking for an uplifting scent, you’ve come to the right place.

My next favorite uplifting scent is Code by Armani. Code was released in 2004 and features:

·         Top Notes-Bergamot, Lemon

·         Middle Notes-Olive Flower

·         Base Notes-Guaic Wood, Tonka Bean

Armani Code for Men in my opinion is a cologne that will work while out on the town in a smoky type environment. Having said that, I wear Armani Code at work from time to time when I’m looking for a cologne that with great staying power that will come in handy on a the never ending Monday.

My final choice for an uplifting cologne is Dolce & Gabbana Pour Home released in 1994 features:

·         Top Notes-Bergamot, Lemon, Mandarin, Orange, Neroli

·         Middle Notes-Cardamom, Lavender, Pepper, Sage, Tarragon

·         Base Notes-Cedarwood, Cumarin, Iris, Sandalwood, Tobacco, Tonka Bean,

The top notes of this cologne is chock full of citrus notes in the form of Bergamot, Lemon, Mandarin and Neroli. This forms my ultimate uplifting scent.

Thanks to the power of citrus oils, Monday no longer holds my mood and spirits hostage.  Citrus based oils not only have the power to improve your mood, relax your spirit and ease your mind, these oils have the ability affect those around you.

Citrus based fragrances in my opinion make great first date scents based on the oil properties. How much easier do you think your first date would be if you and your date were more relaxed with each others?

Keep an eye out for my upcoming ultimate date fragrance list.
