l usually pass on flanker scents, however, there are times when I just can’t resist buying one, in the case of the L’ Homme line by Yves Saint Laurent, I buy these scents based on nothing more than the bottle. I must have them all or my collection won’t look right. Call me a cologne hoarder.
La Nuit De L’Homme
La Nuit De L’Homme or Night Of The Man, released in 2009 is third in a string of flankers going back to L’ Homme by Yves Saint Laurent released in 2006. Billed as a man’s cologne for the night( I’m assuming date night) this cologne isn’t the most spectacular frag on the planet it’s not one that I’m not smelling this all over the place. .
Whether you’re out with your girl or on the hunt for a new one, you sure as heck don’t want to smell like 20 other guys in the place. You want to stand out. This cologne will certainly help you do that with notes such as:
- Top Note: Cardamom
- Middle Notes: Bergamot, Cedar, Lavender
- Base Notes: Caraway Vetiver
La Nuit de L’Homme is the cologne for you if you’re looking for something to fill dual roles. If you enjoy sweeter colognes with great projection and longevity you’ll hit one out of the park with this scent. A nice stand-alone fragrance for men, this stuff will come in handy if you’re a mad scientist with New Fab 4 Pheromone Chem Set ( or have a few unscented ‘mones in your possession) as an excellent cover scent, just what you need to really make the night your own.

La Nuit leans more to the sweet side of the tracks with regards to its smell. Don’t get me wrong, sweet is great (every fragrance collection should have at least one sweeter scent, I have several) but sweet is in as of this writing. Everyone in the younger playgroups is trending towards sweeter, less masculine scents.
Depending on your personality, your cologne may not give off the manly image you were hoping for. This is the reason I would move this to a 2nd date situation. If you’re on a second date, you’re trying to show you’re a multidimensional person.
My Experience
My experience with this cologne is it really isn’t liked by women who are exclusively into the craziest men they can find. They find it too soft and feminine. Then again, these are the type of girls who think a cool dude is a douchebag. On the other hand, I’ve discovered this frag is one a regular woman, not one totally into the bad boy scene can get into.
To mix things up, I’ve used Nuit with an unscented Alpha Male type pheromone, a little Yin, A little Yang. This resulted in being classified as a good guy with a bad side.
The L’Homme Hex Nut Line
In my humble opinion, we sometimes smell with our eyes. By that I mean we’re drawn to something out of the ordinary, something that stands out in a 
crowd. When I first saw that original L’Homme bottle in ’06, I knew I had to at least give it a whiff. I fell in love with what was in the bottle and left with it that day.
To my dismay, the good folks at Yves’ Saint Laurent just had to keep releasing flankers with the same old hex nut cap. Of course, being the sucker and cologne hoarder I am, I pick up each new version whether it smells good on me or not.
